PROFESSOR HARVEY MILLAR (DIRECTOR)

Harvey is Centre Director and was awarded the Charles Albert Shull award by the American Society of Plant Biologists in 2013, and WA Scientist of the Year in 2017. His research aims to understand the role respiration plays in the primary carbon and nitrogen metabolism of plants and their response to oxidative stress, and the dynamics of the plant proteome under limiting conditions. PROFESSOR IAN SMALL

Ian's research interests involve understanding how plants coordinate the expression of nuclear and organellar genes and also building computational models of plant metabolism. He was Centre Director 2006-2013. His research interests involve understanding how plants coordinate the expression of nuclear and organellar genes.

PROFESSOR RYAN LISTER

PROFESSOR RANA MUNNS

Rana has focussed on mechanisms by which plants adapt to drought and salinity stress. She holds a joint position with the University of Western Australia, and CSIRO Agriculture in Canberra. She is recognised internationally for her insights into the fundamental principles of crop adaptation to salinity, and for applications of these insights.

PROFESSOR BARRY POGSON (Deputy Director)

Barry is the Australian representative on the Multinational Arabidopsis Steering Committee. Current research in his group is defining novel roles for carotenoids in plant developmental processes. Complementary research into organelle signalling is identifying the mechanisms by which plants perceive and respond to drought and excess light.

PROFESSOR JUSTIN BOREVITZ

Justin's research applies cutting edge Genomics and Phenomics approaches to the study of the genetic basis of climate adaptation. He uses model plants and foundation species in controlled and field environments.

PROFESSOR OWEN ATKIN

Owen Atkin joined the ANU in 2008 and was awarded an ARC Future Fellowship (2009-2013). He is the Environment Section Editor for New Phytologist and is a Member of the Faculty of 1000. A major focus of his research is assessing the impact of environmental gradients on plant physiological processes, particularly respiration.

PROFESSOR STEVE TYERMAN

Steve is the Wine Industry Chair of Viticulture at the University of Adelaide, which has provided opportunities to apply his research to grapevine root physiology. He has received several awards for his plant physiology research and was elected as a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science in 2003. He has won a prestigious Australian Research Council Professorial Fellowship to investigate the link between calcium transport and water transport in plants.

PROFESSOR MATTHEW GILLIHAM

Matt's research focuses on the physiological role of solute transport proteins in plant nutrition and in conferring tolerance to various stresses such as salinity, drought and aluminium. In 2013, he was awarded an ARC Future Fellowship to investigate the pathways for chloride transport in plants and their regulation.
